Fascia has lots of nerves
Tuesday, 06 October 2009 12:25

In another interesting conversation, a client of mine brought up the topic of a Men's Health Magazine article he read regarding fascia.  I decided to check it out and see if I could learn something new too.  Well, I did.

What I learned, but had not known about fascia is that it is HIGHLY innervated (meaning supplied with nerve endings) to the degree that it is compared to the tongue.  We all know that the tongue is very sensitive, and can feel lots of different physical stimulants simultaneously in addition to its ability to taste.  But I had no idea that the fascial network of tissue has essentially the same amount of nerve connection.  This has many potential effects or consequences, one of the most important I can think of is that our nervous system controls fascia.  Amazing new discoveries that just keep coming in the somatic or manual therapy world.

Enjoy!
