On May 22nd, the Seattle Works had its volunteer appreciation day, which they call the after-party. It is a day that the organization as a whole supports all the volunteers with a big party, raffles, games, and massage. A peer of mine (Lauren of Well Being Bodywork) invited me to join her in providing some chair massage for the volunteers. I must admit that it has been about nine years since the last time I did chair massage, and I was not sure how my current work doing pain relief and injury rehabilitation would translate to chair massage. Any worries I might have had were unfounded, as each person showed relief and appreciation upon getting up from the chair. It was a fun time to meet new people, see the beautiful outdoors, and provide some massage. All in all a great experience for me, and a great success for Seattle Works. Seattle Works had 1,175 participants that together contributed over 4,000 hours of community service in one afternoon and raised over $75,000! For more information on volunteering with Seattle Works, or just that organization in general, go to http://www.seattleworks.org Cheers, Mark Pearlscott
