Another delay in my posting I'm afraid, but life has been busy! KMI training continues with Part 2 which features the 3-series. And what is that?... you might ask. Great question. Let me explain. Structural Integration, is the process of manipulating the soft tissue of the body (mainly fascia) to ease and lift the body in the field of gravity. The goal is to efficiently defy gravity in the standing human body. This gives us a balance to the front and the back of the body, the left and right sides, the core, general lift to the body, and even includes hanging the shoulders and arms softly off the frame of the ribcage. Sounds like a great result doesn't it... to move easier and more freely. The work is provided in a number of sessions, which make up a series, designed to cover the whole body and get it balanced (within gravity). Traditionally this is over the course of ten to twelve sessions, and is normally called a 10 series or 12 series respectively. This provides plenty of time to work over all the major imbalances and do detail work as well. A 3 series by contrast covers the body in three sessions, and therefore doesn't have the same time for detail work that a 10 or 12 series would. The first (of three) sessions focuses on lower body work. The second session focuses on upper body work. The third session focuses on spine work and integrating lower body, upper body, and the spine together. Why bother with the three series? There are a few good reasons: time, money, and energy. With only three sessions to commit to, it is easier to schedule in your sessions (and no need to worry about rescheduling your trip to Hawii). Three sessions costs less than ten or twelve. If you have never had structural bodywork before, you may not have the energy to sustain yourself through a longer course of work. In short, the three series is a nice introduction that gets you started on your journey with a smaller commitment on your part. As part of the KMI training I'm going through, I will be providing some three series to interested people at a reduced package price starting in mid-May. Keep an eye out here on my blog and the home page as I will announce the details soon. Even after twelve years in this profession, there is never an end to learning and sharpening skills! I love this job. Cheers, Mark Pearlscott
